Once upon a time, there was a king. And like many kings, he had a lot of money, riches, lands, houses and subjects. He was very, very rich. But he was also very, very generous, so generous that he couldn’t stop himself from giving.

jesus sacred heartNow, the king had a son who was a young, handsome prince beloved by all the subjects in the land. The prince also had a bit of a spending problem, as many young people do. Plus, he liked to party with his friends, as many young people do. Nevertheless, he was a good person who had a good heart and would always help out his friends without asking anything in return. You could say he got that trait from his father.

So every morning before setting out on his day, the prince would go to the throne of his father to say hello, and every morning, the king, upon seeing his son and being filled with love for the boy, would give him a generous gift.

But he would wait until his son asked, “Father, may I have some money for my needs?” And the father without hesitation and without calculation, would send his servant to the royal coffers and deliver what the boy required for the day, and a little more on top of that.

Finally, the day came when the prince, after receiving his allowance, paused before leaving and turned to the king and asked, “Father, would it not be easier if you gave me sufficient funds to carry me through the month rather than having me come here every morning?”

“Oh yes, my son, that would be much easier, I agree,” the king said. “But seeing you every day gives me something that money can’t buy. Joy. Seeing you is much more valuable than silver and gold. All I have is yours, and I will never deny you, but come to me and don’t hesitate to ask me to fulfill your needs.”

And so it is with God, whose gifts and graces are infinite. And so it is that God loves to hear from us every day and have us tell him our needs. And so it is that God will never deny us.
