“Lord, you have probed me, you know me.
You know when I sit and stand;
You understand my thoughts from afar.
You sift me through my travels and my rest;
With all my ways you are familiar.”

– Psalm 139:1-3

Woman praying at an altarIn his book “The Divine Encounter: Meeting Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration,” Mark Hart has a pointed message for all Christians: “Jesus is not afraid of your mess.” And there’s no denying that our lives become a mess after someone we love dies … and it can be a mess for a long time.

But Hart believes going before the Blessed Sacrament is the wisest and most spiritually profitable thing we can do to solve that mess.

He says: “Our God is not afraid to get his heavenly hands dirty. Let’s not forget that he formed Adam out of the clay and Eve from a rib. This is a God who worked with his hands, healed with spit, and didn’t just calm the storms but tread upon them.

“Our God is not put off by a little work or family drama. Our Lord took flesh and entered the mess. He’s not afraid of yours.

“Adoration is a great time to lay it all out there before the Lord (although I do suggest checking to be sure you’re alone before you do so aloud.) Imagine the trust it takes to speak so transparently and plainly before the God of the universe in that tabernacle or monstrance. Entrusting your greatest and worst moments to the Lord and knowing that he will not reject you but rather will embrace you says a great deal about your relationship and your beliefs in his True Presence. There is nothing you’re feeling that he doesn’t already know.”

When you go before the Blessed Sacrament to talk face to face with Jesus, wonderful things will happen.
