“The Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer and the most efficacious means of attaining eternal life. It is the remedy for all our evils, the root of all our blessings. There is no more excellent way
of praying.”

— Pope Leo XIII

John Kolenberg Sr. had a special devotion to the Rosary.

As a young man, he served as a gunner and tank commander with the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division and received three battle stars for combat in the Battle of the Bulge, which was the largest and bloodiest battle that U.S. forces on the Western Front endured.

Woman With Rosary BeadsWhen John was discharged, he entered a Trappist Monastery in Conyers, Georgia, but later left to become a teacher, marry and raise a family. Of his many accomplishments in life, John, who died in 2005, was especially proud of his devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary. Throughout the day, he prayed it, estimating he prayed several million rosaries for friends and family members, healings, conversions, strangers, peace, the Blessed Mother’s intentions … and many more intentions only known to Our Lady of the Rosary. For John, the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary, was a special time of year.

So follow his example. Take up your beads — or buy a set of beads — and pray the Rosary often. When we pray to the Blessed Mother, she showers down graces upon us and those we love and pray for.

As St. Pio of Pietrelcina said, “Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today.”
