One of the most popular folk groups of the 1960s and 70s was The Seekers from Australia. They achieved worldwide fame with their hit, “I’ll Never Find Another You.” Their lead singer, Judith Durham, was an inspiration throughout her career, and especially in her last years when she was suffering from a chronic lung disease and was in the prayers of her countrymen.

The SeekersOn August 5, 2022, Durham died at age 79 in The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

The Seekers’ final recording together was “Carry Me,” which was performed by Athol Guy at Durham’s state memorial service. Written by Bruce Woodley, Guy, Potger and Woodley added their vocals and instrumentation to Durham’s vocals.

Carry Me

So now the bird has flown
Begins the mystery
You’re on your journey home
Your words of wisdom come to me

Through all the years of doubt
The rhymes of harmony
All secrets of the heart
I will miss your company

You carry me, carry me
On wings so high, I will be set free
And your love will carry me

As I walk these broken roads
Close to the borderline
I know I’m not alone
When it comes my time to shine

You carry me (you carry me), carry me (you carry me)
On wings so high, I will be set free
And your love will carry me

Talk of love not fade away
Be not afraid to show it
We will meet again someday
We’ll meet again, I know it
In my heart

As I walk these broken roads
Close to the borderline
I know I’m not alone
When it comes my time to shine

You carry me (you carry me), carry me (you carry me)
On wings so high, I will be set free
Carry me (carry me), carry me (carry me)
On wings so high, I will be set free
Carry me (you carry me), carry me (you carry me)
You are all I am and will ever be
And your love will carry me
