“We mend, but we don’t forget.”
— Ada Harris in “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris”
In “Whispers of God’s Love: Touching the Lives of Loved Ones After Death,” Catholic author Mitch Finley shared the following story:
“Rosemary’s friend, Sister Redempta, was a member of the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic religious congregation, for sixty-one years. ‘Sister Redempta was an active member of the congregation until she drew her last breath,’ Rosemary said. ‘Redempta was a delight, a gentle soul, a woman of prayer her whole life through.’
“Sister Redempta died suddenly, and Rosemary was unable to attend the funeral service on June 25. ‘I woke early that morning,’ Rosemary said. ‘I slept on the sofa in the living room after spending a restless night in our bedroom. After waking, I closed my eyes again and the vision began. This was the first time I have ever had such an experience.’
“Rosemary saw Sister Redempta ‘looking through a wide panel of crystal-clear glass. The glass was invisible and yet I knew it was present. Instinctively, I realized she was seeing with the clarity and wisdom of heaven. The color tones were soft hues of gray. Then, I saw in the distance a wide vista of mountain range. A miraculous hand colored the mountains in the new green of eternal spring. I saw the lines of a rainbow form and fill in with color. ‘Sister Redempta turned toward me with her wise smile, she raised her arm and looked at her watch, tapped the face of the watch and looked at me. I had a keen awareness that time as we know it is short.… ‘There was one last scene. Redempta sat on a large sofa and gave to each member of New Bethlehem community—a small covenant community—a heart. (Members of this community exchanged paper hearts the previous February so that we each had a particular person to pray for.) Then in a gray mist she was gone.’”
