“My love for you will last till time itself is through.
Oh, my darling, oh, my darling, this I swear is true”
— Jimmy Beaumont
One of the most enduring songs of the doo-wop era was “This I Swear” by the Skyliners, a group formed in Pittsburgh in the late 1950s. The song talks about love that is eternal. Lead singer Jimmy Beaumont was only 17 when the song he had co-written was recorded in 1960.
“This I Swear” still has the power to move a generation, most of whom have lost someone they love:
“I am 96 years old, born in 1922. I was 29 when this wonderful song came out. It reminds me of my darling Lauraline. I’ve cried a thousand tears since she left me, but this song brings me right back to her, in that old Oklahoma dustbowl we called ‘home.’”
“This song gives me the chills to hear it … it still holds up after all these years. Rest in peace, Jimmy.”
“In just a few days, it will be one year since Jimmy passed. We miss him terribly. This kind, humble and so very talented man has given us the most beautiful music. Thanks for everything, Jimmy.”

This I Swear
My love for you will last
Till time itself is through.
Oh, my darling, oh, my darling
This I swear is true
My heart is yours, my dear.
There will be no one new.
Oh, my darling, oh, my darling,
This I swear is true.
I promise you that I
Will never make you cry.
This love will be eternally,
Cross my heart and hope to die.
My lips will kiss, I vow,
Nobody else but you.
Oh, my darling, oh, my darling,
This I swear is true.
This I swear is true
This I swear is true
This I swear is true
